A large-scale movement of the Jewish population, as part of the general American pattern, has forced Jewish communities across the nation to launch fact-finding studies as an aid to planning future services, according to Maurice Bernstein, community organization consultant of the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds Mr. Bernstein’s comments were made to a leadership training seminar conducted here by the National Council of Jewish Women.
John Anderson, executive director of the National Association of Social Workers, told the seminar that a “population explosion” in the United States with a “most dramatic increase” among the very young and the very old required a tremendous expansion in government and private welfare programs in the immediate future.
Arnold Gurin field service director of the CJFWF, reported that the functions of central federations in Jewish communities have “expanded from fund-raisin and distribution to genuine social planning and Jewish community planning.”
