Further revision following certain changes made by Cecide Mille, were ordered to be made in the film “King of Kings” following a preview of the picture by a group of representative Jewish citizens before the showing of the film here.
At the invitation of Mayor Baker members of the City Council and the censor board, a committee composed of Ben Selling, chairman, Rabbi Henry J. Berkowitz, Alex E. Miller, Charles F Berg and Samuel Weinstein, witnessed the showing of the film and asked that certain objectionable sequences which still remained in the picture be removed. The scene in which Calaphas, with clutching hand, dangles the silver pieces before the eyes of Judas and two other portions of the picture were deleted by order of the Portland Board of Censors.
Portland was the first city in which the altered film has been shown.
The committee expressed dissatisfaction with the entire film, but asked for the changes since the film could not be kept from being exhibited here.
