The Jewish Consistoire of France and Algeria, central synagogual body of the Jews of France and the North African territory, denied today reports that Rabbi I. Moreli had been named Grand Rabbi of the city of Algiers or that Grand Rabbi Jacob Kaplan of France had been named Grand Rabbi of Algeria.
There has been no discussion in official circles or with Rabbi Moreli, a spokesman for the Consistoire declared. He noted further that since 1955, Dr. Kaplan has in fact held the title of Grand Rabbi of France and Algeria but has delegated his powers as Grand Rabbi of Algeria to another spiritual leader. No decision has yet been made in filling the latter post, the spokesman emphasized.
