The United States Post Office has scheduled sale of a 1968 Christmas stamp, an action that in recent years has drawn protests from Jewish organizations including the American Jewish Congress. They claim that it violates the church-state separation provision of the Constitution. The six-cents stamp will go on sale on Nov. 1. It is based on a detail from “The Annunciation” by Jan van Eyck, the 15th Century Flemish artist. The painting is in the National Art Gallery in Washington.
