The “enormous responsibility” that will rest upon Jewry of the English-speaking world – especially upon American Jews – during the ten or fifteen-year period of reconstruction that will follow the war was stressed today by Prof. Selig Brodetsky, president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, opening the new term at the Institute for Jewish Learning here.

The influence wielded in Jewish life today by the English-speaking Jews is greater than is due them, on the basis of the number of them adhering to Judaism, as a result of the destruction of European Jewry, Prof. Brodetsky declared. American and English Jewry, he said, will have its own problems after the war, “but they can and will face them and conquer them; the question is whether they are prepared to also face the responsibility for European Jewry.”
