A Cabinet level meeting at the White House yesterday decided to put off final action on whether the United States will remain in the International Labor Organization after Nov. 5. That date marks the end of the two-year period of notice of intention by the U.S. to leave that United Nations body on the grounds that it has gone outside its charter and become politicized by its attacks on the U.S., Israel and others. The State Department said that for the “time being” the U.S. letter of withdrawal will stand.

AFL-CIO president George Meany, at the meeting with the Cabinet, pressed for an immediate decision for withdrawal. But Secretary of State Cyrus Vance and National Security Affairs Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski were said to have urged a delay of several more months.
