The arbitration board formed to effect an amalgamation of the two rival shochtim unions, Local 440 and the Vaad Shochtim Oifes, will meet in the office of Arthur Simon, chairman of the board and Health Department investigator in charge of Kashruth, 139 Centre street, at two o’clock this afternoon.
Last week both groups signed an agreement consenting to submit difficulties between them to a mutually chosen board of arbitration. Amalgamation into one union will forestall scabbing by one union while the other is on strike. Efforts at arbitration were lent impetus by the threatened strike by Local 440.
Besides Simon, the members of the arbitration board are: Rabbi Moses Rosen, Louis Boudin, S. Erdberg, Rabbi Ephraim Kaplan, Louis J. Gribetz and Rabbi Raphael Morisshansky.
Simon and Judge Otto Rosalsky, the Mayor’s mediator in the poultry difficulties, have been summoned to City Hall for a conference with Mayor LaGuardia at eleven o’clock this morning.
It is reported that the Mayor has become incensed because of the turmoil prevailing in the kosher poultry industry in New York.
The Jewish Daily Bulletin was informed by Simon yesterday that pressure is being brought to bear by wholesalers, retailers and other groups to halt deliberations aimed at gaining improved conditions for the shochtim.
A conference among representatives of the various factions interested in the poultry industry, scheduled for tonight at the Hotel Pennsylvania, may be called off, it was learned. Final decision will be made after the conference with the Mayor.
