THE UNIVERSITY OF POZNAN TODAY INTRODUCED “GHETTO BENCHES” FOR JEWISH STUDENTS, BECOMING THE FIRST UNIVERSITY OUTSIDE OF WARSAW TO COMPLY WITH NATIONALIST DEMANDS FOR SEGREGATION OF JEWS.

THE JEWISH STUDENTS, FOLLOWING THE PRACTICE OF CORELIGIONISTS IN THE WARSAW COLLEGES, REFUSED TO OCCUPY THE BENCHES, ELECTING TO STAND THROUGHOUT THE LECTURES. THE UNIVERSITY RECTOR WARNED THE STUDENTS TO USE THE BENCHES OR INCUR DISCIPLINARY MEASURES.
