The Praha Jewish community has replied to an inquiry addressed to it by the Jewish community of Vevey-Montreaux about the scene alleged in Goedsche’s novel, “Biarritz,” to have occurred in the Praha Jewish cemetery, and introduced into the so-called “Protocols of the Elders of Zion.”
“Our searches in the archives of our Community and of the Jewish Burial Society in Praha,” President Reiner of the Jewish Community writes, “have shown that in 1869 no Rabbi Simeon ben Jehuda died in Praha, or was buried there, so that no graveside address of this ###nd could have been delivered in the Jewish cemetery.
“It has further been shown that neither in 1869, nor at any time throughout the nineteenth century was there any Rabbi in Praha named Reichhorn, and the name is not even known in Praha. Neither in the archive nor in the library of the Jewish Community is there any record of a graveside address by a Rabbi Reichhorn, or a rabbi of the name of Simeon ben Jehuda, and nothing whatever is known of such an address. We therefore consider that we are entitled to declare that reports concerning such a graveside address and its supposed contents are pure inven###s.”
