A dispatch from the Moscow correspondent of the J. T. A. published in the Bulletin of April 9th, regarding a letter printed in the Moscow “Pravda” from Alex Gumberg, a Director of the American-Russian Chamber of Commerce, had a statement that Mr. Gumberg denied that he gave up Soviet citizenship for American citizenship. A copy of the “Pravda” of April 7th has been received in New York since then, and shows that Mr. Gumberg’s letter contains no such statement or any statement that can be so interpreted.
Mr. Gumberg’s letter was written in reply to an article signed by L. Ninin, published in the “Pravda” of February 8th, which Mr. Gumberg characterized in his letter in the “Pravda” as absolutely false and entirely lacking of foundation. Mr. Gumberg’s “Pravda” letter also contains the following statement: “My reputation in the business circles in America and in the U. S. S. R., and my many years of work in connection with the development of economic relations between the United States and the U. S. S. R., make it unnecessary for me to make any further reply to misleading insinuations contained in Ninin’s article.”
Ninin’s article, however, had no statement which called Mr. Gumberg a “deserter”, as was reported in the J. T. A. dispatches.
