Israel’s Prime Minister David Ben Gurion addressed a new warning this week-end to the people of Israel that the decisive factor in Israel’s security was her armed strength and that additional arms were urgently needed to assure that strength.
Mr. Ben Gurion, in a review of the current political situation before the central council of his Mapai party, said that a “supreme effort must be made” to bolster Israel’s military equipment because of the vast amount of weapons the Arab countries were continuing to receive from both the East and West.
Asserting that Israel’s Army was now rated one of the best in the world, the Prime Minister said that the time factor was favorable to Israel. He told the Mapal leaders that the world recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and Israel’s present boundaries, as well as the “lack of reality” in proposals for any substantial return of the Arab refugees to Israel.
