President Bush called Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to offer condolences for last week’s suicide bombing in Jerusalem, and expressed the need to avoid escalating violence in the Middle East. Sharon told Bush that Israel will not lead the region to war but is committed to protecting its citizens, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
