President Clinton plans to appoint Rabbi Irving “Yitz” Greenberg to serve as chairman of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council, according to a White House source. The appointment is expected to be announced after a background check is completed, the source added. A theologian who has written about the Holocaust’s impact on religion, Greenberg would succeed Miles Lerman, who last week told Clinton he would step down as soon as a successor is appointed.
