An appeal to President Truman “to use his good offices to the end that a firm and lasting peace be concluded between the State of Israel and its Arab neighbors” was made today by Benjamin G. Browdy, president of the Zionist Organization of America, addressing a meeting of the National Administrative Council of the Z.O.A. at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, attended by 400 leading Zionists from all over the country.
Mr. Browdy also appealed to members of the U.S. Congress to pass the bill for a grant-in-aid to Israel which is now pending in both Houses. He paid warm tribute to Israel’s Premier David Ben Gurion, who is now visiting the United States.
The meeting approved a motion to convene the 54th annual convention of the Zionist Organization of America beginning June 14th through June 17th at the Breakers Hotel in Atlantic City. The gathering also approved a recommendation to change the name of “The New Palestine,” official organ of the Z.O.A to “The American Zionist,” The present name was adopted in 1921. For 20 years prior to that date the publication was known as “The Maccabean,”
