The presidents of France and Israel got together this week to dedicate a center for the promotion of bilateral commercial ties.
On Wednesday, Francois Mitterrand and Chaim Herzog officially inaugurated the France-Israel House, located near the Arch of Triumph in the heart of Paris.
A first meeting of a club of French and Israeli industrialists was to be held there Thursday, hosted by French Commerce and Foreign Trade Minister Dominique Strauss-Kahn.
The Israeli president raised the issue of the Arab boycott against Israel. Mitterrand responded by recalling that he had pushed through legislation opposing the Arab ban on trade with Israel. He said those still complying with the boycott are not following official advice.
The French president, who is due to pay his second official visit to Israel soon, said relations between the two countries are strong.
France-Israel House is designed as a window for Israeli industry and a meeting point for industrialists from both countries. It is headed by Lionel Stoleru, a French Jew who is a former member of the French government.
