The Presidents of Israel and Uruguay issued a joint statement here Sunday affirming the warm friendship between their countries, their support for the Middle East peace process and support of the Contadora process to end conflicts in Central America.
The statement was released as President Julio Maria Sanguinetti of Uruguay ended his five day official visit here, hosted by President Chaim Herzog. It referred to the problems of Third World and developing nations and agreed that both Israel and Uruguay should assist those countries, each in its own way. The two Presidents noted the expanding cooperation between their countries and stressed the need to strengthen their economic ties.
