Dr. J.F.G. Day, Lord Archbishop of Armagh and Primate for all Ireland, today promised to support efforts for combating persecution of Jews. Thanking Rabbi J. Schachter of Belfast for congratulations on his appointment as primate, Dr. Day said in a letter: “I have had many friends among the Jewish communities for whom I have the greatest regard. I recognize the part your community has played as good citizens in the life of our country. This feeling of regard makes me feel enraged at the way the House of Israel has been treated in many countries of Europe. This modern paganism is as hostile to Christianity as to Judaism. Anything I can do in the fight for Liberty and good will I shall endeavor to carry out.”
