The liquidation of all Jewish places of worship housed in private residences, has been ordered by the Government. The closing or the houses of worship will cause worshippers considerable hardship as most synagogues in Kiev and other places are now quartered in private homes. The authorities, however, are willing to leave the economical independent “Botemedroshim” alone.
The campaign against institutions is evidently not limitied to synagogues. Thus a report in the “Emes”, the Yiddish communist organ, states: “The Tarbuth Gymnasium of Kiey (Hebrew High School) has been finally liquidated. It has functioned illegally since the revolution, and has had 130 students.”
