PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT’S INTERVENTION TO PREVENT THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT FROM PARTITIONING PALESTINE WAS ASKED TODAY BY THE PRO-PALESTINE FEDERATION OF AMERICA.
A NATIONAL DELEGATION REPRESENTING THE FEDERATION SENT THE PRESIDENT A TELEGRAM URGING HIM TO INTERCEDE WITH BRITAIN BEFORE THAT COUNTRY COMMITS ITSELF BY PUBLICATION THURSDAY OF THE REPORT OF THE ROYAL COMMISSION ON PALESTINE.
PARTITION WOULD VIOLATE THE LETTER AND SPIRIT OF BRITAIN’S MANDATE FOR PALESTINE FROM THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS, THE FEDERATION DECLARED. IT MAINTAINED THAT UNDER A “BROAD INTERPRETATION” OF THE 1924 TREATY, THE UNITED STATES HAS A RIGHT TO PASS UPON ANY CHANGE IN THE STATUS OF THE MANDATE.
