As a joint undertaking, the Canadian Zionist Federation and the Canadian Jewish Congress are coordinating the sale in Canada of “Let My People Go–A Haggadah,” by Mark Podwal, with an introduction by Theodore Bikel. Proceeds will be used to alleviate the plight of Soviet Jews.
The haggadah features the complete traditional Hebrew and English texts relating the bondage in and flight from ancient Egypt, with parallels drawn with the plight of Soviet Jews today. The book’s graphics, however, relate only to the modern exodus from the USSR. “Hopefully,” Bikel wrote, “in years to come this haggadah will be in use in Jewish homes, with children seeing in these pictures not only another chapter in the long Jewish history of suffering and deprivation but a chapter of the past.”
