Mayor Henry W. Maier has proclaimed Jan. 6 as “Proclaim Liberty Day” in the city in honor of the dramatic and musical pageant “Proclaim Liberty,” the national United Jewish Appeal show which stars Herschel Bernardi and Theodore Bikel. The mayor’s proclamation states that “Proclaim Liberty,” which portrays the heritage of the Jewish people and its yearning for freedom, is “meaningful to all cultural, racial and ethnic groups in Milwaukee.” The proclamation also salutes “the outstanding performers who will visit our city for their furtherance of the cause of freedom throughout the world.” The play has been sponsored by a number of Jewish Federations throughout the country.
