Prof. Jacques Bloch, director of the Swiss OSE organization since 1946, has died at the age of 76. A native of Russia, he was a professor of English literature at the St. Petersburg Pedagogical Institute in 1917 and a founder-member of the Petropole publishing house.
He settled in Berlin in 1922 and became active in German-Jewish social organizations, first with ORT and then with OSE, the Jewish health agency. He left Germany in 1938 and became assistant director of ORT in Paris, but had to flee again, this time in 1943.
