Prof. Lewis B. Namier, who was closely associated with Dr. Chaim Weizmann in the Zionist movement for many years and served as political secretary of the Jewish Agency from 1929 to 1931, was awarded a knighthood in the first birthday honors list issued by Queen Elizabeth II.
Prof. Namier, who is 64, served in the British Foreign Office and has been Professor of Modern History at Manchester University since 1931. He is the author of many volumes on European and English history and has written several essays on Jewish questions.
The honors list also included a knighthood for Ben Lewis Barnett, deputy director general of the General Post Office. A membership in the Order of the British Empire was conferred upon Sam Philip Abrams, London manufacturer.
