Dr. William Popper, professor of Semitic languages at the University of California and a brother-in-law of the late Dr. Judah 1. Magnes, president of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, yesterday received and becorary La L.D. from the University.
Prof. Popper was also honored by faculty members, who, on the occasion of his 75th birthday, published a jubilee volume, “Semitic and Oriental Studies,” editied by his successor Prof. Walter J. Fischel, formerly of the Hebrew University. Prof. Popper, internationally recognized scholar in Hebrew and Arabic studies, joined the University of California in 1905 and retired in 1945. He is the author of six volumes on Semitic studies.
