Italian philologists and historians were greatly stirred by the publication of a volume by Professor Savini on the origins of the ancient Etruscan language, the language spoken by the Tusci who lived in Italy in the twelfth century before the Christian era. Prof. Savini declares in his book that Etruscan was a Semitic language, identifying it with ancient Hebrew.
The publication of the book created a sensation because it was made on the eve of the International Etruscan Congress which was convoked for this month in Florence.
