Prof. Sukenik of the Hebrew University archaeological department, has discovered remnants of an ancient fortress near Jericho, it was announced today. This fortress is believed to be the place where Ptolemy, the King of Egypt, killed Shimon Hachashmonai, more than 2,000 years ago.
Prof. Sukenik is noted for his excavations in Palestine. He is the author of many works on Palestine archaeology and is considered one of the best archaeologists in the Holy Land.
