Professor Henryk Biegeleisen, Nestor of Polish literary historians and folk lore authority, died here at the age of seventy-eight.
Professor Biegeleisen was born in Touste, Galicia. He is the allthor of a five-volume illustrated history of Polish folk lore, published in three volumes: “Mother and Child;” “Marriage;” and “In the Cradle, at the Altar and at the Grave.”
Professor Biegeleisen also published a critical series of the works of the Polish classicists Mickiewicz, Slowacki, and Fredro.
Although the press incorrectly states in a number of instances that Professor Biegeleisen was Christian, he was descended on his mother’s side from Nachman Krochmal, eighteenth century Jewish philosopher. He was buried in a grave of honor in the Jewish cemetery here yesterday.
