More than 300 American Zionist leaders from all sections of the United States, attending a special nominating conference called by the Committee for Progressive Zionism, today unanimously voted to name a “Committee of 15” to explore the possibilities of achieving peace and unity in the American Zionist movement.

The C.P.Z. nominating conference, which had been scheduled to name C.P.Z. candidates for the presidency and other offices of the Zionist Organization of America for presentation at the Z.O.A. national convention on May 28, voted to defer naming its slate of candidates until May 1 in order not to jeopardize the possibilities of peace in the Zionist movement in this country.

During the two-week interim the “Committee. of 15” will be ready to “explore with all interested groups” ways and means of unifying the various Zionist elements in this country. Unless tangible results are achieved by May 1, the resolution warned, “the C.P.Z, has no alternative but to prepare to present its own list of candidates at the next Z.O.A. convention.”

Other resolutions adopted by the delegates included a demand for a secret ##allot at the Z.O.A. convention, greetings to President Chaim Weizmann of Israel who ##s now in this country, and hopes for the speedy recovery of Dr. Stephen S. Wise. Among the speakers at the parley were Louis Lipsky, a former president of the Z.O.A., and Ezra Z. Shapiro, former chairman of the Z.O.A. national executive and now vice-chairman of the C.P.Z.
