A prominent member of the Jewish community here is a chief contender for the office of Vice President in the November 3 elections to be held in Guatemala, the World Jewish Congress reported today. Dr. Julio Benjamin Sultan is a renowned physician and a very active politician who served a term as Minister of Public Health from 1974-1978.
According to the Latin American branch of the WJC, Sultan plays a leading role in Jewish communal affairs and participates in the “Biblical Quiz” where he often discourses on Biblical subjects, displaying an extensive knowledge of rabbinical literature. Sultan is a member of the slate headed by Lionel Sisniego Otero, which is supported by the National Unity Front.
