Dr. Joseph B. Wolffe, a prominent heart specialist, will leave for Israel Saturday, as representative of a group of American and Israel physicians interested in the development of an international medical institute in Israel near the site of the 2,000-year-old Tiberias hot springs.
It is understood that Dr. Wolffe, director of the newly elected Valley Forge National Heart Institute and Hospital at Fairview Village, Pa., was drawn into the plan by American and Israeli colleagues who are impressed by the possibilities of the Tiberias project. The medical institute, as at present contemplated, would be operated as a strictly independent medical organization, maintaining a close working co-operation with medical and scientific agencies in this country and in Israel.
The hot springs, located on the shores of the Sea of Galilee about a mile from the town of Tiberias, are reputed to be the equal of any of the most famous European spas in medical values. It is one of the few spas in the world where highly radio-active spring water is available. Experts will study the beneficial effects of these waters and the climate in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and diseases of the heart and circulatory systems.
