Xavier Vallat, first Vichy Commissar for Jewish Affairs, is among a group of prominent collaboraters, including former cabinet ministers, whose property has been seized by the government. The official announcement said that the man are charged with “actions prejudicial to the external security of the state.”
Re-opening of a free-loan association to assist small businessmen, artisans and professionals to re-establish themselves, was announced today. The enterprise, known as the Caisse Israelite de Prets, will operate in Paris and in other cities of France with large Jewish populations. The Paris branch will open with a capital of five million franes subscribed by the American Joint Distribution Committee. Col. Paul Weil, banker, is president of the association; Andre Goldet, vice-president, and Captain Guy de Rothsehild, treasurer.
