Prosperous Development Reported in Ica Colony in Argentina

THE AVIGDOR COLONY IN THE ARGENTINE, RESERVED BY THE JEWISH COLONIZATION ASSOCIATION FOR THE SETTLEMENT OF JEWISH FAMILIES FROM GERMANY, HAS BECOME A CENTER OF PROSPEROUS AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT. THE COLONY IS SITUATED ON A VERY FERTILE PIECE OF LAND AND THE COLONISTS ON THEIR ARRIVAL WERE SUPPLIED WITH ALL THE NECESSARY INVENTORY, AS WELL AS WITH HOUSES AND SHEDS. THEY WERE ENABLED TO BEGIN WORK AT ONCE, AND ALL THE NECESSARY AGRICULTURAL IMPLEMENTS AND STOCK WERE PUT AT THEIR DISPOSAL.

AT THE MOMENT 42 FAMILIES HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED IN THE COLONY FORMING A POPULATION OF 242 SOULS. EACH COLONIST CULTIVATES FROM 30 TO 35 HECTARES OF LAND, WHICH ARE SOWN WITH OATS, WHEAT AND FLAX.

THE ICA RECENTLY TOOK PART IN AN AGRICULTURAL EXHIBITION WHICH TOOK PLACE IN LA PAZ, IN THE PROVINCE OF ENTRE RIOS. THE ICA STAND ATTRACTED THE ATTENTION OF A LARGE NUMBER OF VISITORS AND PARTICULARLY OF THE NATIONAL DEPUTY, MORROGH BERNARD, AN IMPORTANT ARGENTINIAN POLITICIAN, WHO CONGRATULATED THE ICA REPRESENTATIVES AND EXPRESSED THE DESIRE TO VISIT AVIGDOR.

THE ICA STAND EXHIBITED MAINLY PRODUCTS FROM THE AVIGDOR COLONY AND FROM THE NEIGHBORING SETTLEMENT NAMED “L. COHEN-L. OUNGRE.”

THE ICA AND THE COLONISTS WERE AWARDED MANY PRIZES, AMONG THEM ALSO THE MUNICIPAL PRIZE OF LA PAZ, GIVEN FOR THE BEST AGRICULTURAL EXHIBIT OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ENTRE RIOS, THE FIRST PRIZE AND DIPLOMA OF HONOR FOR CANNED MEAT, VEGETABLES, CHEESE, COTTON, ETC.
