The World Jewish Congress today submitted to all delegations at the United Nations a memorandum outlining the plight of the Jewish populations of Libya and Tripolitania and urging that provisions safeguarding the “equality and human rights of all inhabitants” of those countries be included in agreements concerning the former Italian colonies.
The Congress document also urged that all inhabitants of those countries be assured the right of free emigration, administration of their own affairs and recognition of collective rights of existing religious and ethnic committees whose “institutions should enjoy the sons privileges as similar institutions of the general community.” the memorandum also recommended financial assistance by the local authorities to these institutions.
