The residents of Dir el-Khatab village held a rally today to protest the construction of a Jewish settlement at near by Djebil Kebir. The army surrounded the village and set up roadblocks to prevent the mayors of other West Bank towns from joining the protest.
Earth-moving equipment continued to work on the access road to Djebil Kebir where the settlers from Elon Moreh are to be moved later this month. Elon Moreh is to be dismantled by order of the Supreme Court. Agriculture Minister Ariel Sharon, chairman of the Ministerial Settlement Committee, said in the Knesset today that a large Jewish town would be built at Djebil Kebir “and will make a substantial contribution to peace.” He promised that the evacuation of the Elon Moreh settlers would be orderly.
