The Left Wing of the Christian Socialist Party, led by Dr. Jearzabek, has together with the Hakenkreuzler Party, headed by Dr. Riehl, started a new anti-semitic campaign in Austria. Speaking yesterday at a joint demonstration of the two parties, they prophesied that at the next elections, the official Christian Socialist (Government) Party, would be conducting an antisemitic campaign in order to revenge itself on the Jews who had voted at the last elections for the Social Democrats. They would call for a Numerus Clausus against the Jews in all fields of public and social life.
The “Deutschoesterre?chische Tageszeitung” is giving away to its subscribers free copies of the “Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion.” Thousands of copies of the book are being put into circulation in this way.
The Senate of Vienna University has decided to suspend five students, including one girl student, for their part in the anti-Jewish disturbances at the University last month, for one to three terms. The charge is that they insulted the Jewish race and attacked a baptised Jewish professor. This is the first time that students at Vienna University have been punished for antisemitic activity.
BERNSTEIN SUIT AGAINST FORD MAY BE SETTLED.
Settlement of the libel suit of Herman Bernstein against Henry Ford out of court may come about during this week, it was learned yesterday by the Jewish Daily Bulletin.
Mr. Berstein declined to comment on the pending negotiations.
Herman Berstein has withdrawn from the editorship of the Jewish Tribune, owing to the pressure of his other literary and journalistic work, and is no longer responsible for the editorial policy of that weekly. Mr. Bernstein, however, retains his connection with the Jewish Tribune as contributing editor.
HARTMAN TO MAKE STUDY OF EUROPEAN COURT PROCEDURE
The United States Government, through the offices of the Department of Justice, has commissioned Justice Gustave Hartman of the City Court to study operations and conditions of civil and criminal courts abroad and to report to the Attorney General his findings upon his return to this country late in September.
Judge Hartman who leaves today, aboard the S. S. Berengaria will visit every country in the European continent.
This became known at a farewell luncheon tendered to Justice Hartman by his family and friends on Sunday.
