The Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith’s representative in Rome reports that the infamous Czarist forgery “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion” has just been published in Italy by the firm Costantino Catapano in Lucera, near Foggia, Printed from a French translation which originated in Beirut in 1972, the current anti-Semitic document is reportedly being distributed to priests, schools and private persons. Against a background of deteriorating economic conditions, ADL’s representative fears “scapegoating of Jews” among reactionary elements “for whom the ‘Protocols’ is an appropriate tool.” Several thousand copies of the book are said to be in circulation.
