Nervous tension is displayed in the German press today in connection with the trial which opens in Berne, Switzerland, tomorrow, and in which Nazis are accused of libel by Jewish leaders for spreading the notorious “Protocols of the Elders of Zion,” a forged document aiming to show that Jews plot to dominate the world.
The Angriff, Goebbel’s mouthpiece, published an article today assailing the Jewish leaders in Switzerland for instituting the trial.
“It is through the Berne court that the Jews of the world wish to obtain judicial support for combating our National Socialist ideology,” the paper writes.
HITS BERNE COURT
The Voelkischer Beobachter, chief Nazi organ carries an article today by Colonel Fleischhauer, the Nazi “expert” at the Berne trial, alleging that the court in Berne was induced to withhold material from the Nazi “experts” in connection with the trial.
The “Protocols of the Elders of Zion,” which appeared in Germany under the editorship of Alfred Rosenberg, Hitler’s right-hand man, have been revised this week in Nazi versions, in order to whitewash the accused in Berne. The revised editions admit that the “Protocols” are not records of the first Zionist Congress held in Basle in 1897, as originally asserted by Nazi witnesses at the Berne trial last October.
