With a majority of one the Prussian Federation of Jewish Communities in session here rejected the draft of a constitution for the proposed Federation of Jewish Federations in the Republic.
The draft, which had been under discussion for some time in Germany, has been approved by all, except the Prussian state federations of Jewish communities. It is the general opinion that if this idea is to be proceeded with, the Federation of Federations, aiming to create a general Jewish organization in Germany, will have to be brought about by direct elections in the Jewish communities. The Zionist group, as well as the centrum party in the Prussian State Federation, voted against the proposal because some of the state federations, such as those of Saxony and Hessen, bar East European Jews from participating in their elections.
The annual meeting of the Prussian Federation voted yesterday to contribute 3,000 Marks toward the fund being raised by the Hilisverein to relieve the famine-stricken Jews in Bessarabia.
The Federation also voted to prolong the tenure of its officers until the end of 1930, when new elections are to take place. A resolution was adopted that the Federation should not seek government recognition as a public legal body It was pointed out that in case such recognition is sought the government would require the elimination of foreign-born Jews from offices in the organization. Instead the meeting adopted a resolution proclaiming the Communities Federation as a public body on the basis of the Federal Constitution.
