A roll of honor containing the name of Jewish soldiers who fell in the German army during the war, in so far as they are known, is to be issued shortly by the Federation of Jewish Ex-Soldiers in Germany in connection with the forthcoming tenth anniversary of the Federation.
The basis of the roll of honor will be the cards which were collected from the Jewish communities throughout the country by Professor Silbergleit and Dr. Jacob Segall on behalf of the War Statistics Committee, now kept at the offices of the Federation of Jewish Ex-Soldiers. Excluding the territories detached after the war from Germany and the Hamburg district, where the enquiry was not completed on account of objections made against it, the figures show that 9,216 Jews fell on the battlefield and 873 were reported missing, believed dead. These missing are being included among the dead. With the addition of an estimate for the detached territories, the number of Jewish fallen is believed to be well in the neighborhood of 12,000.
The official organ of the Federation of Jewish Ex-Soldiers, “Der Schild,” has already started publishing the first list of names.
