Joseph Menard, publisher of local anti-Semitic weeklies, was found guilty of criminal libel by the local court.
M. Menard was found guilty of publishing libelous statements concerning the editor of a rival French weekly.
Sentence will be pronounced on M. Menard at the end of the court term.
The verdict was received with satisfaction in Jewish circles, although anti-Semitism did not figure in the trial.
M. Menard recently figured in the action brought by a Jew calling for an injunction to be issued restraining the anti-Semitic publications he owns from publishing attacks on the Jews. Although the injunction was refused on the ground that it could not be issued under the present legal code, the Justice of the court coupled with the refusal a scathing denunciation of the publisher and the papers.
