Exclusion of Yiddish words from the German language was demanded today by the Voelkischer Beobachter in a special article. The newspaper demanded that in the future Germans refrain from using the Yiddish word “dalles” for “misery”; “pleite” for “bankruptcy”; “schmusen” for “chatting,” and “schoffel” for “low.”
The article asked that “kosher” and similar expressions also be abandoned. At present these words are accepted not only by the German press and stage, but are even included in German dictionaries.
