‘The world contains nothing but rabble’—and according to Dr. Schnuch’s notorious quotation—’When I speak the rest must keep their mouths shut’—apparently have forgotten that we are not sitting in a prison but are standing behind the League in accordance with our own free will…

DEMAGOGUE DICTATORS

“By a false interpretation of the principle of leadership a small group of demagogues have succeeded in dictatorial fashion in bringing damage of a financial kind to the League. To the spirit of the movement and of the members no damage ever could be done.

“In the fight to defend Germany’s and the League’s honor the great enemy has been forgotten. There has been fighting against our own blood brothers and our own nation—the best fighters in our League. We know only one aim—to stand up for Germany, for its greatness, in the fight for its honor.

“We know the enemies who wish to destroy Germany. Let us therefore move forward to the fight!”

SCHNUCH SILENT

Dr. Schnuch and his subordinates were silent yesterday in the face of the above-quoted charges. They were adhering to a policy of watchful waiting.

Meanwhile Haegele was getting in numerous telling blows against his opponents. He expected to be in complete control of the Deutscher Beobachter’s offices by today, when the time expires for Schnuch’s men to quit the editorial and business rooms of the Nazi newspaper under the terms of a dispossess notice served last Saturday.

Although one or two Schnuch followers continued to maintain a twenty-four hour vigil in that portion of the publication’s headquarters which it still held yesterday, their communication with the outside world was cut off when Haegele had the telephone service discontinued.

MEYER JOINS HAEGELE

Haegele insists he is acting within his legal rights as lessor of the property and as general manager of the paper and of the Germania Printing Co., Inc., which controls it.

Regarded as significant of the increasing strength of his group was the fact that Willie Meyer, notorious New Jersey Nazi leader who has been among the most violent anti-Jewish devotees of Hitlerism in this country, had joined his ranks.

Meyer, Haegele and Werner Brink, New York Nazi enthusiast, were scheduled to speak at a rally in Turn Halle, Lexington avenue and East Eighty-fifth street, last night. The meeting was open to any one interested, and shortly before it convened Haegele saw indications of a record turn-out.

Louis Zahne, who collapsed during his defense of Schnuch at a meeting last week, was reported as having left the city for a ten-day vacation, according to Dr. I. T. Griebl, his physician.

The Italian philologist Graziadio Isaiah Ascoli at the age of sixteen made a distinguished and sensational contribution to philology.
