The 84th annual convention of the Grand Lodge of the Knights of Pythias last night adopted a resolution empowering the leaders of the lodge to cooperate with other organizations in bringing about the enactment of legislation in New York State making it illegal for any fraternal or benevolent organization to reject applications for membership on the basis of race or color.
The organization also adopted a resolution recommending a change in its state charter to remove the restriction of membership to white persons. State legislation will be necessary to bring this resolution into effect. Alexander C. Maller of New York, who was presented yesterday with a scroll on behalf of the Israel Bond Issue for having sold $250,000 in Israel bonds, was elected Grand Chancellor of the Domain of New York at the concluding session of the convention.
