The Swedish press today again appeals to Vidkun Quisling, pro-Nazi premier of Norway, to allow the remaining Norwegian Jews to proceed to Sweden which would be willing to admit them, the papers state, in order to save them from deportation to Poland.

The Dagens Nyheter, one of the leading Swedish newspapers, taking issue with a statement by Quisling that the Jews in Norway are treated “with the greatest humanity,” asks what the pro-Nazi premier would say if his associates were treated in the same way as he treats the Jews, “In the name of humanity of which he speaks, Quisling could surely allow Sweden to take charge of the Jews who still remain in Norway, ” the paper writes.

All Catholio churches in Sweden will conduct a day of prayer for the Jews this coming Sunday, it was announced here today by the leader of the Catholic Church, Bishop Johannes Mueller, In a letter addressed to Archbishop Erling Eidem, head of the Swedish State Church, Bishop Mueller declared that the Catholics are joining in the protest against Nazi persecution of Jews voiced by the bishops of the Swedish Protestant Church.

“In the name of all Swedish Catholics,” the letter said, “I express our innermost and deepest sympathy with all those who in our day are innocently persecuted and indiscriminately suppressed. It fills our heart with bitter pain and constant trembling to know that in Europe, which was and still should be a Christian part of the world, thousands of people are persecuted, tormented, killed, or are mercilessly driven from home and homeland to be thrust into exile and misery because of race, or because they had defended the freedom of their country and their ancient rights inherited from their forefathers,” The Stockholm radio commenting on the Catholic leader’s statement declared that “now all Christian Sweden stands on the same line,”
