The racial clause in the proposed bill on the number of lawyers to be admitted to practice in Hungary has been dropped, according to a statement issued today by the Ministry of Justice, which sponsored the measure.

The bill would have empowered the Ministry of Justice to limit the number of new lawyers in proportion to the number of racial and religious minorities in the country.

The Hungarian Bar Association, at its conference last week, voiced militant opposition to the racial clause in the proposed bill.
