Rabbi Eliyahu Samuel Artom, one of the outstanding spiritual leaders of the Jewish community in this country, and dean of the Rabbinical College in Italy, died here this weekend at the age of 78.
The remains were flown today to Israel for burial, after solemn rites in front of the Great Synagogue here, where a eulogy was delivered by Chief Rabbi Elio Toaff. Representatives of virtually every Jewish community and organization in Italy attended the rites, as well as large numbers of Jews living in Rome.
