Rabbi Dr. Bernard Bergman, president of the National Council for Torah Education, issued an urgent appeal to Israel’s Minister of Education, Yigal Allon, to take immediate steps to discontinue the use of the text booklet, “The Early Christianity” published several months ago by the Ministry of Education for the state schools.
The booklet, Rabbi Bergman declared, shows an unmistakable tendency to depict Christianity in a very favorable light and distorts history by omitting any mention of the countless persecutions, inquisitions, discriminations and mass killings of Jews on the part of Christians. Rabbi Bergman declared on behalf of National Council for Torah Education of Mizrachi-Hapoel Hamizrachi that if the publication is withdrawn the organizations would reimburse the Education Ministry for the expenses incurred to date in printing and disseminating the aforementioned booklet.
