Rabbi Sidney E. Goldstein, chairman of the social justice commission of the Central Conference of American and Canadian Rabbis, meeting here at its forty-fifth annual conference, sounded a plea for social reforms which he said are the problem of the United States government to solve.
In his annual committee report which was heard by more than 150 attending delegates, Rabbi Goldstein echoed the expressions used by President Roosevelt in his Congressional message recently. He presented a statement of principles and ideals as they relate to present day societies and asked that government relief be extended to meet unemployment problems, etc.
“No government,” he said in his report, “has the right to assume that the problem is solved. What is needed by these idle men and women is work and wages.”
