Dr. Israel Goldstein, Rabbi Emeritus of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun, N.Y., has been invited to deliver the opening prayer at the closing session of the House of Representatives Thursday.
The invitation is in recognition of his 60th year of public service in the United States and in Israel. It will be the third time Goldstein will have performed the honor. The first time was on Feb 1, 1960, the 100th anniversary of the first prayer delivered by a rabbi before Congress. The second time was when Goldstein was chairman of Israel’s 10th anniversary observance in the United States.
Goldstein served for many years as a member of the Executive of the World Zionist Organization and the Jewish Agency, and was elected at the recent session of the Zionist General Council in Jerusalem to complete the term of the late Ezra Shapiro.
