Rabbi Isaac Landman, president-elect of the Synagogue Council of America and editor of the Universal Jewish Encyclopedia, died here today at the age of 66. Funeral services will be held Friday.
A prominent educator and writer as well as a spiritual leader, Rabbi Landman took an active part in the battle against the Ku Klux Klan, Henry Ford’s anti-Semitic newspaper, the Dearborn Independent, and other un-American and anti-Semitic forces. He was a pioneer in establishing close Jewish-Christian relations and served on an interfaith delegation to Mexico. He was involved in numerous Jewish educational projects for adults and children. He was born in Sudilkov, Ukraine, in 1880, and came to this country at the age of ten.
